The Celestial is a New Year’s Eve cruise on the River Thames with an open-air panoramic upper deck, sailing from Tower Millennium Pier on Lower Thames Street, a few minutes’ walk from Tower Bridge, on 31 December 2026. Boarding is at 9:00pm for a 9:30pm departure, returning to the same pier at approximately 1:00am. Every guest receives an individual basket with a small bottle of champagne or a non-alcoholic alternative, a small bottle of Prosecco, two bagels and a selection of savoury and sweet snacks. Live music plays through the evening and the licensed bar on board is paid separately. Children from 5 years old are welcome. Tickets cannot be refunded once booked.

Everything happens on the open deck

Most Thames boats put you behind glass. The Celestial is bought for the opposite reason: the whole upper deck is open to the sky, and at midnight that is where the fireworks are watched from — standing outside, with nothing overhead. The lower deck stays available and heated, so the evening works even if the weather turns, but the deck is the point of the ticket. Dress for a night outdoors on the water in late December: it is colder on the river than on the embankment, and the boat is moving.

    How the night unfolds

From 9:00pm — Tower Millennium Pier

Check-in is on Lower Thames Street, below the road. You are asked to be at the pier 30 minutes before boarding, and it is worth taking that seriously: central London closes to traffic long before midnight. Check the Transport for London road closures before you set off. The boat does not wait for latecomers.

    9:30pm — casting off

The basket is handed out as the Celestial leaves the pier and the live music starts. The first stretch runs past Tower Bridge and HMS Belfast, with the City lit behind you.

Midnight — on the upper deck

The countdown is called on board and the fireworks go up over the river. The captain and crew work to hold the best position they can for the display.

Until 1:00am — back at Tower Pier

The Celestial returns to Tower Millennium Pier, where it started. Tower Hill and Monument are the nearest stations; check what is running on the night before you plan the way home.

    Before you book

The dress code is smart casual. Children are welcome from five years old, and the child fare covers ages 5 to 17. The basket is the food on board and it is included; anything from the licensed bar is paid for separately, so bring a card. Your confirmation arrives by email immediately after booking.

One thing to be clear about before you pay: the position of the boat at midnight cannot be guaranteed. River traffic on 31 December is heavy, and weather and tide both move the plan. The captain and the crew work to secure the best viewing position they can, and the captain’s decision on the night is final. Tickets cannot be refunded once booked, so treat the purchase as final too.

Celestial New Year’s Eve Cruise – FAQ

    • What time does the evening start and finish?

Boarding opens at 9:00pm at Tower Millennium Pier and the Celestial departs at 9:30pm. The cruise lasts about three and a half hours and returns to the same pier at approximately 1:00am. You are asked to arrive 30 minutes before boarding.

    • What is included in the price?

Access to the open-air panoramic upper deck, the cruise itself, live music, and an individual deluxe basket: a small bottle of champagne or a non-alcoholic drink, a small bottle of Prosecco, two bagels and a selection of savoury and sweet snacks.

Gratuities and transport to and from the pier are not included.

    • Is the bar included?

No. There is a licensed bar on board, but it is a paid bar: drinks beyond the basket are bought separately. Photo identification may be required to be served alcohol.

    • Is the upper deck covered? What happens if it rains?

The upper deck is open to the sky — that is what distinguishes this cruise. There is no cover over it. The lower deck is enclosed, so there is somewhere to warm up, but if you are booking for the open-deck view you should come dressed for standing outside on the water in December.

    • Can children come?

Yes, from five years old. The child fare covers ages 5 to 17.

    • Where exactly is the pier, and how do I get there on New Year’s Eve?

Tower Millennium Pier, Lower Thames Street, London EC3N 4DT, below street level near Tower Bridge. Roads across central London close early on 31 December for the fireworks, so allow far more time than usual and check the Transport for London closures before travelling.

    • Will I see the fireworks from the boat?

The fireworks are launched over the river and the crew work to position the Celestial as well as they can for them. Visibility cannot be guaranteed: river traffic that night is heavy, and weather and tide affect where the boat can sit. The captain’s decision on the night is final.

    • Can I cancel or change my booking?

No. Once booked, tickets for this cruise cannot be refunded.
